Our Story

The first Adventists in Champaign-Urbana were nurses who came in the 1800s from the Battle Creek Sanitarium. This small group initially met in homes for Bible study and church service. The first official church building was purchased in the 1920s, and the current building was built in the 1960s. Today, this culturally-diverse group of members continues to serve the Champaign-Urbana community.

Our Mission

The mission of the Champaign Seventh-day Adventist Church is to preserve the unity of the faith of Jesus Christ, glorify God by representing and exemplifying the character of Christ and the love of God in the community, and proclaim the everlasting gospel within the context of the three angels' messages of Revelation 14 in preparation for the soon coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Our Community

The Champaign–Urbana metropolitan area, also known as Chambana (colloquially), is a wonderfully diverse micro-urban community in east central Illinois.

It encompasses approximately 27.5 square miles of land and is a home-rule municipality of about 222,538 residents centrally located between Chicago, Indianapolis, and St. Louis.

With the influx of students each year at the University of Illinois and more residents moving in for diverse work opportunities, the Champaign-Urbana population has been growing steadily. There is a tremendous opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through our community outreach endeavors.

He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." Luke 10:2

Our Pastor

Pastor Eugene Preval is a tender-hearted person who is genuinely interested in the lives of those he serves. Having witnessed the power of God in his conversion experience inspires him to point others to Jesus Christ, the only One that restores hearts and quenches the innermost needs of a thirsty soul.

Pastor Eugene was born in Brooklyn, New York then raised in Queens, New York. He has served in many capacities under various churches and institutions within the North American division of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church.

Pastor Eugene and his lovely wife Laverne work together to educate, encourage, and empower souls for eternity.

In their free time, they enjoy adventurers in nature, meeting new people, having heart-to-heart discussions, connecting with loved ones, and trying new cuisines when traveling.

In the harvest, the seed is multiplied. A single grain of wheat, increased by repeated sowings, would cover a whole land with golden sheaves. So widespread may be the influence of a single life, of even a single act. - Ellen White
